Fair Favourites Return

The organisers of the Network Spirit of Christmas Fair are delighted that lots of the "Fair Favourites" have already booked their spaces at the 2009 Fair which is taking place on 1st December, 2009 at the Hotel Garbe in Armação de Pêra.

Book the date in your diary now. All you need for Christmas under one roof.

Sweet Marilyn is starting to bake the puddings, Liz Jensen has already ordered the Danish Christmas Trees. Jouk, Alison and Fiona will have the latest fashion ready for Festive parties. Rainbow Cards and Buyology will be bringing the latest in Wrapping paper, cards, and crackers, not forgetting those fun stocking fillers. A selection of books will be available from Griffin Bookshop http://www.griffinbookshop.com/ - they already have their Christmas book lists - phone them for your copy so you can plan your purchases for the Fair.

The number of first time bookings has also exceeded the expectations of the organisers. The 2009 Network Spirit of Christmas Fair is set to be the best ever.

Seeds of Change

The Western Ladies Network meeting this month is being replaced by a super full day workshop in conjunction with Network and three valued members, Suzy Steinhofel, Shirley Emilio and Dr Janice Russell.

Network Spirit of Christmas Fair

For those of you not taking a table for the Christmas Fayre this year, we have a new inititave for you to think about.

This year we will be having a Gift Voucher table, available to members who have a product or service that people might like to give someone else in the form of a Gift Voucher/certificate.

Gift vouchers are a great present, appealing to both the buyer and recipient alike.

The NETWORK table will be available at a cost of 10 euros per person for a 1/3 x A4 size voucher/leaflet holder. Spaces are limited and we have set a maximum of 12.

The advantages to NETWORK members are:

a) a presence at this popular and well attended yearly event.

b) low cost

c) little or no time commitment.

We will ask interested parties if they can spare an hour to man the table, which will help boost your sales, although this is not mandatory.

You supply the Gift Vouchers to fit in the holders, which we will provide.

Tombola - Network Spirit of Christmas Fair

Just to remind you that our Christmas Fair will be held on the 1st of December at our usual location - the superb Hotel Garbe in Armacao de Pera.

Please remember that all the money raised on the Tombola will be given to support the excellent work ongoing at the NETWORK Charity for 2009, the Bom Samaritano in Alvor.

Please start looking in your cupboards for all those lovely but unwanted items that you can donate to this cause. Items from your business also very welcome and this will provide you with an extra chance to promote your business. Perhaps you have generous suppliers who might also like to be involved and donate a gift or two.

News from CLCC

We are starting the new school year, with new courses, new timetables and new opportunities to learn Portuguese... Our courses vary from intensive to year-long, from beginners to advanced courses and we have private as well as group lessons. Please find the planned start dates for the group courses below. Don´t hesitate to contact us for more information. We hope to see you soon at the CLCC!

Since April the CLCC has held a monthly event, ´Janela Aberta´. These events are open to our students, foreign residents and their family and friends; everyone eager to learn the Portuguese language.

We started with a Fado afternoon, we had a Guided Tour in the Portimão Museum, we went by boat from Portimão to Silves along the river Arade and we had a typical Portuguese sardinhada in the fishing village of Ferragudo.

On the 29th of October we are going to Vila Real de Santo António, from where we will take a boat trip on the Rio Guadiana to Alcoutim. The Guadiana river forms the natural border between Spain and Portugal. From the boat you can enjoy the view of the Portuguese as well as the Spanish river bank. You will pass by the natural reserve ´Sapal Verde´, with its variety of plants and birds.
In Alcoutim you will walk with a guide through the town, who will show the interesting historial sites, telling you about the history of the town and the region. You will visit the museum and the old fortress, which has a great view on the village of Sanlucar de Guadiana in Spain.
After the guided walk we have a typical regional meal, and at 3PM we embarque again and head back to Vila Real de Santo António.
